CHIME Charter School of the Year

charterschooloftheyearCongratulations to us! For the second time, CHIME Charter has been named Hart Vision Awards Charter School of the Year by the California Charter Schools Association. We are the only charter school to have received this honor twice.

Mr. Studer said he believed CCSA took notice of the school this year because of the focus it puts on the professional development of other charters and traditional schools.

“One of the things that I think really caused CCSA to notice or highlight our effort is we put a tremendous amount of time to disseminating our practices and providing professional development for other schools in Southern California as well as New York, for both charter and district-run schools. We have worked with 50 different schools, both charter and district schools, in the last three years.”

Charter Up for Renewal

It’s time for renewal of the CHIME K-8 charter—please take a minute to sign the petition to the LAUSD school board. You do not need to be a CHIME family to sign.

Read and sign the petition here: ccsa.nationbuilder.com/chime_charter_school?recruiter_id=218034

Do you want to lend even more support? CHIME is also collecting letters on what our school means to your family and will send these to the school board on your behalf. Please email your letter to Ariane Metzner arianered@mac.com or Mireya Guerrero at guerrerosinla@yahoo.comDon’t forget to include your name and address. The letter should be addressed to: Dear Honorable School Board Members.

We also need help at the vote next Tuesday (March 8th) downtown. Charter renewals are not guaranteed. CHIME needs parents to:
1) Go early for wristbands to reserve a seat at the board meeting;
2) Some to stay or arrive later who would be willing to speak on behalf of CHIME if needed and provide support by being present in support of CHIME by filing up seats If you can help provide visible support next week at the vote please contact us ASAP.

Thank you!

Sign the CHIME Charter School Petition

Have you taken a moment to sign the online CHIME Charter school petition? You can also write a letter in support, telling the LAUSD Board members what CHIME has meant to you and your family. Performances are timed to end with the school day—students may be picked up from their classrooms afterward.

New CHIME High School Update

Last Thursday was an exciting day here at CHIME. We officially submitted our petition to the Los Angeles Unified School District for CHIME High School. While this was an important step, there are many steps to go, and launching a new school (especially a high school) will take a significant community effort from all of us. As with any significant endeavor there have been many questions from our community. See this letter from Director Erin Studer for answers to frequently asked questions.
